New Booster, Flip Axle and Deck Extension
To increase load-carrying capacity, boosters and flip axles can be fitted to a commercial trailer. Booster and Flip Axles attach to the rear of the trailer, distributing the load over a larger number of axles. Deck extensions are used to increase the surface area of the trailer, allowing for loads of different sizes to be accommodated by the same trailer. All three parts considerably extend the use cases for commercial trailers.
Companies hauling heavy equipment for construction sites, farming, or utilities often require the use of boosters, flip axles, and deck extensions. Shipping of large manufactured goods, such as metal coils, single-piece concrete components, and building materials may also require boosters and flip axles. Depending on the job site and customer, the trailer can then be customized to handle a greater load when the need arises. Additionally, if the trailer returns to the yard without any load, a flip axle can be retracted to save on drag and fuel costs.
Because Transwest has extensive experience with selling and servicing commercial trailers, they also know how best to advise and supply customers with these add-ons. Additionally, Transwest can install and service these parts, making them a one-stop-shop. Commercial clients can rest assured that they will be taken care of from start-to-finish.
A flip axle is a complete axle assembly that can be entirely removed from the trailer when it isn’t required. It is attached to the rear of a trailer by hinge plates and pins, allowing for it to be deployed and bear weight or be retracted and rest on top of the trailer bed when rotated up to 180 degrees.
Depending on the State that the trailer is in, the additional axle can be used to spread out the load and ensure that all regulations on per axle weight limits are met. In addition, the flip axle adds flexibility and capability to a fleet’s existing trailers, giving them the option of being used for heavier loads. A flip axle can also simply better distribute the weight of a load, helping to extend the trailer’s life.
A trailer booster has a similar purpose to a flip axle, in that it provides additional axles and connections upon which to spread the load on the trailer. But the booster can also contain hydraulics and a small motor to help support the increased load on a trailer.
