Used Grain Hopper
A grain hopper is a type of trailer used to transport bulk agricultural products after the harvesting process. The trailer is shaped like a funnel to allow for easy loading through the top and seamless unloading through hoppers in the bottom. Grain hoppers are equipped with a rolling tarp on the top to make loading easy and to cover the product while in transport.
Transwest offers new sales, rental, and service of grain hoppers. Timpte grain hoppers, the industry gold standard, are currently available to view before purchasing.
Combine harvesters are used to load grain into a hopper trailer for transport. The hopper trailer is then used to ship bulk agricultural products. The trailer typically has a rolling tarp on the top that retracts to allow for easy loading into the hopper and extends to protect the grain from the elements while in transit.
The trailer gets its name from the two hoppers on its base. These contain a sliding plate that controls the flow of grain out of the trailer.
A grain hopper trailer uses the same funnel shape to make it easy to load and unload grain when it is moved from one location to another. The top of the trailer can be opened and serves as the top of the funnel where grain enters. This open area is much larger than the opening at the bottom. The bottom of the trailer tapers in, allowing the grain to flow easily out of the trailer, just as liquid easily flows out the bottom of a funnel. The internal shape of the trailer designates it as a hopper.
