Covid-19 Package Delivery Industry Updates
During these strange and trying times, there have been many manufacturers that have been forced to shut down in order to comply with safety requirements. These shutdowns have had a major impact on the FedEx Ground truck supply across many brands including Freightliner, Ford, and GMC. Transwest has seen a huge impact on chassis and body production. Below are a few updates that we have received:
Freightliner Custom Chassis: FCCC is open and caught up with production. The chassis delay was approximately 30 days, the same amount of time that their plant was closed. Freightliner chassis supply should not be an issue in the next few months.
GM: GM was able to start back to work on May 18th. We anticipate being able to have updated chassis target production weeks within the next 2-3 weeks. Once we have these dates, we can more accurately depict when we will have completed units from Rockport and Utilimaster for cutaways.
Ford: Ford also started back to work on May 18th. At this time their production is limited, as they will be coming back to work in phases and with a gradual ramp up. They are beginning with 25% production. The timeline for being caught up after an almost two month shut down is still to be determined. How this will impact Morgan Olson and Utilimaster completing full units is also to be determined.
We hope to have more updates and positive news to report within the next few weeks! We are dedicated to making sure that your truck needs are met, and our conversations with suppliers are daily on how we can get you the inventory you need ASAP. Thank you for your continued support during this time.
