FedEx & Safety: Where are we now, and what is on the horizon?
FedEx and safety go together like peanut butter and jelly. Where one goes, the other will follow. The most current safety update is the new Tremco Anti-Theft device. This device focuses on disabling the engine while the driver walks from the truck with the package to the recipient’s doorstep. Thus, reducing the likelihood of having the truck and the packages inside stolen. This device is required on all units by March 15th and can be ordered directly from Tremco for all on ground trucks. An important detail to note, when ordering this device, be sure to select “my shifter is not listed” for all Freightliner MT products. The manufacturer used is Orscheln. An image of the shifter can be seen below.
At Transwest, we are committed to making sure that all of our units meet FedEx’s safety requirements upon delivery from the factory, reducing the items contractors have to take care of post-delivery. Our goal is to make the purchasing process as streamline and simple for contractors as possible! We are working to have the Tremco Anti-Theft device added on the production line as standard with Utilimaster and Morgan Olson as soon as possible.
The addition of the Anti-Theft device has caused many to consider, “what will be next?” in regards to safety. Many are asking questions about driver assistance including lane departure warnings and brake assist. 360 degree cameras are also on the horizon. While we are unsure at this time when these items will be required, we are working to stay ahead of them to keep contractors informed and trucks as up to date as possible. Check back for more information on safety in the months to come!
