Ford Recall: What we know and what you can expect
The recent Ford recall has F59 buyers throughout the country seeking answers to their questions, and solutions to the problems that they now have to deal with because of it. Here are a few details:
Q: What is the recall focused on?
A: The recall is focused on the lack of oil volume in the rear axle.
Q: What units are affected?
A: F59 strip chassis built between July 6, 2020 and February 15, 2021.
Q: When can we expect a resolution?
A: While the solution to this issue may appear straightforward: add more oil to the rear axle, it unfortunately is not this simple. In the memo from Ford, they noted that they expect a full resolution by Q3. The reason for this is because lack of oil in the rear axle can cause major damage throughout the entirety of the vehicle. In order to be sure that all units are evaluated correctly (un-sold vehicles and vehicles currently in operation), Ford must analyze every possible component that could be damaged due to low fluid levels and make determinations as to which parts may need to be replaced if the vehicle is “In Use”. We hope to have a resolution prior to Q3, however, we do not expect that a dealer news bulletin will be out overnight.
Q: What do we do in the meantime?
A: New units that were chassis built between the affected dates will not be able to be sold until the dealer news bulletin is issued from Ford. However, this does not mean all chassis are stopped. You will be able to purchase F59 units, as long as the chassis were built after February 15th. For any trucks that you have already purchased and are currently on routes, we recommend stopping service in order to prevent the possibility of further damages. Any damages that are incurred due to the lack of oil volume will be covered by Ford. Please note that warranty work does not work retroactively: if you have a local mechanic fix your unit, you will be responsible for the entirety of the bill. Making sure that you have a certified Ford dealer fix your truck is important to make sure you are not stuck with a large bill.
This issue is something that has major affects on customers and dealers alike. We will continue to monitor this and provide updates as we receive them from Ford. If you have further questions, please contact us!
